Joy Bot

To simulate the Joy Bot program in your workplace, home, or school, follow these three simple steps:

1. Decide what type of bot you want to create (joy, kindness, love, bravery)

2. Draw basic shapes onto a blank domino

3. Use paint pens to fill in the shapes and add color / character

Jill Stevenson, art teacher at Sierra Expeditionary Learning School, took students and staff through a Joy Bot creative exploration. The project was inspired by Gary Hirsch, who has created close to 40,000 Bots with a goal of empowering states of being in the world of joy, love, bravery, and kindness, among others. Stevenson discovered the program and wanted to implement it among students and staff at SELS. She tasked each person with creating three bots: one that represented strength, one that represented a quality to spread in the community, and one that represented kindness. Kindness bots will be displayed on campus, strength bots are to be kept by each individual, and community bots will be dispersed in a variety of ways to spread joy around Tahoe/Truckee.
