Tahoe Tap Haus to Open

TAHOE CITY

The group that brought you the Tahoe Art Haus & Cinema is part of a new partnership that is opening Tahoe Tap Haus in the former Tahoe Mountain Brewery space in Cobblestone Center. Tahoe Tap Haus will open in December and will feature eight craft beers on tap, and serve wine and pub food including burgers, sandwiches, steak, and shepherd’s pie. The eatery will focus on sustainable and local ingredients and feature a movie theater menu with items that can be enjoyed at the cinema. The restaurant is excited to bring on Chef Chris Taylor, former executive sous chef at Homewood Mountain Resort and West Shore Café. Plans Submitted for Truckee Art Haus, Railyard Theater

TRUCKEE

The plans for a 12,130-square-foot, three-screen movie theater, and performing arts theater in the Truckee Railyard Master Plan area are officially submitted to the town’s planning division. The project includes a 199-seat large auditorium, 95-seat smaller auditorium, and 84-seat second small auditorium. The Haus will be a major motion picture cinema, local/independent film venue, and live music, local dance, and performance venue. The lobby area is proposed to be open to all and popcorn, snacks, and drinks, including beer and wine, would be served. The project will first be reviewed by the planning commission; a hearing date has not yet been scheduled.


Squaw Valley Academy Under New Ownership

Squaw Valley Academy enters a new chapter during the 2018/19 school year and beyond. The school is now owned by the York Education Group, an education provider that operates five different prep schools across the country. The independent day and boarding school has reexamined the student experience and focused on strengthening both the community and the academic curriculum. With 100 percent of SVA seniors receiving college acceptances, the college counseling program begins with sophomores and is appropriately structured to find the right school for the right student. The academic curriculum has been developed to both challenge and prepare students for lifelong learning, while still recognizing that all students learn differently and should be seen as individuals.


Tahoe Speech Therapy Unites with Clever Minds

TRUCKEE

Tahoe Speech Therapy LLC is pleased to announce a new collaboration with Clever Minds. Owned and operated by Tara Meyer and Molly Meyer, Tahoe Speech Therapy now provides speech and language services at Clever Minds Learning Center in downtown Truckee. Tahoe Speech Therapy offers free screenings, comprehensive evaluations, and customized speech-language therapy in the areas of articulation, phonology, receptive and expressive language, pragmatic language, and stuttering.


Alison Elder Ranks Among Engel & Völkers Worldwide Top 10

Alison Elder, of Elder Group Tahoe Real Estate | Engel & Völkers, has been recognized for her extraordinary achievements in 2017. Elder was named one of Engel & Völkers’ Top 10 Real Estate Advisors Worldwide, an accolade recognizing top performers out of over 10,000 real estate professionals spanning over 30 countries. She ranks third among the candidates in the categories of transaction volume, commission, and units sold. In 2017, Elder completed 136 transactions, generating national sales of $94,516,462 out of her Truckee office.


School District to Hold Junior Career Fair

TRUCKEE

Tahoe Truckee Unified School District announced its annual Junior Career Fair (Junior Resource Fair) will now be held in the fall, and will be on Monday, Nov. 19 at the Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District’s new facility at 8924 Donner Pass Rd. The event will be from 9 a.m. until about 1 p.m. Set up begins at 8 a.m. The event will include booths by local businesses that represent careers in the industry, ranging from entrance level on up, with shared knowledge about skills, industry certifications, and various levels of training and education needed for the variety of careers.


Sierra College Interns Showcase Career Clusters

TAHOE CITY

Sierra College student interns will showcase career clusters in the Tahoe-Truckee region in the areas of creators, helpers, satisfiers, catalysts, traders, innovators, healers, and conveners. Each student will deliver an original photojournalistic/oral presentation honoring those career opportunities in a Pecha Kucha format. The goal of this event is to celebrate the multiplicity of career pathways in the North Tahoe/Truckee Community, and to encourage greater connectivity through networking opportunities amongst the industries. The presentations will take place at Granlibakken on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. The project is cosponsored by Sierra College and Tahoe Truckee Unified School District.


Deso Supply Partners with UNR Pack Internships Program

RENO/TAHOE

Local outdoor lifestyle apparel brand Deso Supply will participate in University of Nevada, Reno’s Pack Internship Program for the first time in spring 2019. The program gives students of all majors the opportunity to partake in paid internships with local businesses, nonprofits, and other local agencies. Businesses work with the Career Development Services Department at UNR to develop stubstantiative internships backed by grants for 120 hours of paid work per semester.
